Avid Technology and Google Cloud announced a multi-year partnership today to integrate agentic AI capabilities into Avid’s professional video editing platform. Google’s Gemini models and Vertex AI will be incorporated directly into Avid Media Composer and Content Core, the company’s new cloud-native SaaS platform, according to Deadline and the official press release.
Both companies will demonstrate the new agentic workflows at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, which starts Saturday, April 18.
What the Partnership Delivers
Avid Media Composer is the dominant non-linear editing system for professional film and television production. The partnership brings Google Cloud AI into that environment to automate time-intensive production tasks: media discovery, scene and shot tagging, content organization, and production workflows.
Anil Jain, global managing director of strategic industries for Google Cloud, told Deadline the collaboration signals the industry is “moving beyond simple automation.” An editor using the AI-integrated Avid tools “can now collaborate with an intelligent agent to create assets on the fly and handle the heavy lifting of matching styles and filling timelines, enabling them to focus on storytelling instead of infrastructure.”
Avid CEO Wellford Dillard said customers “are asking for intelligent tools that plug into existing workflows and scale with their creativity,” adding that the Google Cloud partnership “strengthens our ability to deliver secure, AI-driven innovation, while keeping Avid interoperable and adaptable across the broader production landscape,” as quoted by Deadline.
The Archive Opportunity
A key application is media library management. According to a Google Cloud blog post cited by Deadline, “media organizations sit on decades of archived footage that is difficult to search through and expensive to manage. AI can automatically tag every scene and shot, making massive video libraries as searchable as the web.”
Buzz Hays, former Lucasfilm executive and now Google Cloud’s Global Market Lead for Entertainment, described the repackaging potential to Deadline: a half-hour comedy series contains seven acts designed around commercial breaks, already structured for conversion into micro series content. “It’s a very interesting possibility, especially given how expensive content production has gotten.”
Recent Google Cloud media clients include Gray Media, Major League Baseball, and NBCUniversal. France’s Canal+ has also incorporated Google’s AI tools for archive organization, per Deadline.
The Professional Creative Stack Goes Agentic
The announcement, confirmed independently by IBC.org and the Google Cloud Press Corner, adds media production to the list of professional creative verticals that have announced agentic AI integrations this week. Adobe launched Firefly AI Assistant as a cross-app agent orchestrating workflows across Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator on April 15. A production editor choosing between Avid and Adobe Premiere in 2026 is now choosing between two different agentic AI implementation strategies, not just two editing interfaces.
The multi-year commitment signals this is platform-level integration, not a plugin. Google Cloud’s AI stack is becoming part of Avid’s production infrastructure.
