Amazon moved agentic AI from internal experimentation to production deployment across four business lines during Q2 2026, CEO Andy Jassy told analysts on the company’s earnings call Thursday. The company reported $200.6 billion in quarterly revenue, up 20%, while AWS grew 37% to $42.2 billion, its fastest rate in 18 quarters, according to PYMNTS.

Consumer: Alexa for Shopping

Amazon combined its Rufus recommendation engine and Alexa+ into Alexa for Shopping, an agentic assistant that recommends and compares products, provides price histories, and automates purchases through price alerts and Auto-Buy. Active users nearly doubled during the quarter. Interactions increased more than fivefold year-over-year. U.S. customers who use Alexa for Shopping spend more than 40% more per order than those who do not, Jassy said, according to PYMNTS.

Enterprise: Amazon Quick

Amazon Quick, a new workplace agent, searches email, calendars, files, and company systems, then takes actions: scheduling meetings, sending messages, updating customer records, building dashboards. Users can create autonomous agents in plain language to complete multistep assignments in the background. The product grew from internal demand. Amazon employees pushed the company to connect the tool with email, Slack, and calendars after initially using it for document summarization and research.

“It’s pretty remarkable not only how fast it’s taken off inside Amazon, but how many external enterprises have put it into production with a very large number of people at their companies,” Jassy said.

Infrastructure: Bedrock AgentCore Payments

Amazon added machine payment capability to Bedrock AgentCore, allowing AI agents to execute transactions autonomously without human per-action approval. Amazon Connect, the company’s contact-center platform used by airlines, banks, and healthcare companies, continues to grow as the primary external distribution point for these capabilities.

The Vertical Integration Playbook

Amazon’s agent strategy follows its historical pattern: build tools to solve internal operational problems, then package those capabilities for AWS customers. EC2 started as Amazon’s own compute. S3 was Amazon’s storage layer. Bedrock AgentCore is the agent equivalent.

Jassy positioned Amazon as a multimodel platform. When asked whether Amazon needed a leading frontier model, he said: “There is not going to be one model to rule the world.” Bedrock customers spent more on the service during Q2 than in all previous quarters combined, per the earnings release. Amazon’s AI business and chip business each passed $25 billion annual revenue run rates with triple-digit percentage growth.

Financial Context

Second-quarter operating income rose 43% to $27.5 billion. Net income reached $62.6 billion, though that included $53.4 billion in pre-tax nonoperating income tied primarily to Amazon’s Anthropic investment. Free cash flow swung to a $7.6 billion outflow over the trailing 12 months as capital expenditures for AI infrastructure accelerated.
