GitLab announced on April 14 that Google Cloud customers can now power the GitLab Duo Agent Platform using the Vertex AI models they already use, and count that usage toward their existing Google Cloud commitments. The announcement doesn’t add new AI agent features to GitLab’s platform. It changes how those agents get funded inside enterprise procurement.
The Procurement Shortcut
Enterprise AI spending is increasingly consolidated under cloud vendor commitment agreements. Teams with approved Google Cloud budgets can deploy Vertex AI workloads without a separate procurement cycle. For teams building AI agent products aimed at enterprise customers, the GitLab-Google Cloud model suggests the go-to-market playbook. Build the agent product, then make it purchasable through the cloud commitment the customer already approved. The procurement cycle is the bottleneck. Cloud marketplace distribution bypasses it.
