OpenAI’s agent products have reportedly reached 10 million combined users this month, according to Bloomberg reporting cited by Healthcare Finance News. The figure covers both Codex, the company’s autonomous coding agent, and ChatGPT Work, its enterprise agent workflow product.
The 10 million figure reportedly doubled from earlier in July 2026, placing agent products as OpenAI’s fastest-growing category by user acquisition velocity.
What Codex and ChatGPT Work Do
Codex operates as an autonomous coding agent inside OpenAI’s platform. It takes natural language instructions, writes code, runs tests, and submits pull requests without continuous human oversight. ChatGPT Work targets enterprise teams with agent workflows that handle multi-step business processes: research, document generation, data analysis, and tool coordination across SaaS platforms.
Both products launched earlier in 2026 as OpenAI shifted strategic emphasis from model releases toward productized agent systems. The company unified Codex and ChatGPT into a single application with a dedicated Work mode in July, consolidating its agent capabilities into one interface.
The Adoption Velocity in Context
Ten million users in a single month is significant, but the doubling trajectory is the sharper signal. ChatGPT itself took roughly two months to reach 100 million users after its November 2022 launch. Agent products hitting 10 million and doubling within the same month suggests enterprise and developer demand for autonomous task execution is accelerating faster than the initial conversational AI adoption curve.
OpenAI has not disclosed what percentage of the 10 million users are on paid plans versus free tiers, or how usage breaks down between Codex and ChatGPT Work individually. The company generates the bulk of its revenue from subscriptions and API access, and recently closed a $122 billion funding round at an $852 billion valuation.
The Agent Product Race
The milestone arrives as every major AI lab pushes agent products into production. Anthropic launched Claude Managed Agents for enterprise customers. Google’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform enforces cryptographic identity governance for autonomous systems. Microsoft’s Teams Interactive Agents are on the roadmap for September 2026, though that timeline has shown signs of delay.
OpenAI’s 10 million figure gives it the clearest public benchmark for agent product adoption among frontier labs. Neither Anthropic nor Google has disclosed comparable user counts for their agent offerings.
The number also matters for OpenAI’s revenue trajectory. The company reportedly projected $12.7 billion in 2026 revenue. Agent products that retain enterprise users at Work-tier pricing ($25-60/month per seat) could contribute meaningfully to that target if even a fraction of the 10 million convert to paid plans.
