Otter.ai released Live Assist on July 23, a real-time AI coaching agent that auto-joins enterprise calls and delivers private guidance to participants while they talk. The feature works across Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Otter’s desktop app.
Unlike Otter’s legacy product, which transcribes and summarizes calls after they end, Live Assist operates during the conversation. It listens to meeting audio, matches what’s being said against uploaded reference materials, and surfaces small tip cards visible only to the user. The cards suggest questions to ask, surface relevant data points, and flag conversation objectives that haven’t been covered yet.
How It Works
Live Assist starts in Otter’s Agent Builder, where teams configure what “good” looks like for specific call types. Users upload existing materials: sales playbooks, standard operating procedures, competitive battlecards, onboarding documents, and past call transcripts. The agent learns from these and applies them contextually during live conversations.
Once configured, Live Assist joins calls automatically with no manual trigger required. During the call, it generates sidebar coaching cards designed for quick glances rather than reading. According to Otter.ai’s product announcement, the cards function “like a sticky note, not a teleprompter.”
The agent also tracks call objectives in real time, checking off topics as they’re covered and flagging items still outstanding. Users can see mid-call whether they’ve addressed pricing, timeline, next steps, or whatever their team defined as required conversation elements.
Integrations and Target Use Cases
Live Assist connects to Claude and Salesforce, pulling context from existing systems and pushing information back after calls complete. This means the agent can reference deal history, customer records, and pipeline stages while coaching, according to MarTech.org’s coverage of the launch.
Otter positions the tool across multiple verticals: sales discovery calls, customer success check-ins, recruiting interviews, and internal operational meetings. The Agent Builder is intentionally open-ended, allowing teams to define custom coaching agents for any repeatable call type.
A New Agent Vertical
Live Assist occupies a distinct category in the enterprise agent landscape. Most deployed AI agents handle backend automation (processing documents, routing tickets, managing workflows) or developer tooling (code generation, debugging). Live Assist targets the gap between those categories: real-time human guidance during high-stakes interactions.
The shift from post-call analysis to in-call coaching reflects a broader pattern in agent design. As enterprises deploy agents across more functions, the interaction model is expanding beyond autonomous task completion to include collaborative human augmentation where the agent’s role is advisory rather than operational.
Live Assist is available to Otter Enterprise customers. Pricing was not disclosed in the announcement.
